Alooooha!!! This is Dr. Hudson. Having just returned from the beautiful island of Oahu, I am still infused with the aloha spirit…

Words cannot describe my gratefulness for the opportunity to go on this vacation.

It was a spectacular and vitalizing time. The sun was energizing… The salty waves were healing… The food was nourishing… The times with the ohana, so loving…

But I would like to share with you something I experienced on the trip that was opposite of all of the above: Painful, inflicting, and draining!

My amazing uncle who lives in Ewa Beach, took me and my brothers fishing at Barber’s Point, a GORGEOUS beach, featuring sparkling sand, crystal clear waters, dazzling clouds and a life-infested reef…

Yes… The reef… It was here where we would walk out in the POUNDING surf to cast out our lines in order to catch the delicious papio fish.

Smart local fisherman wear REEF WALKER SHOES when trudging on the reefs to go fishing… But being a haole and not knowing anything about Hawaiian fishing, I thought I could try to be like the ancient Hawaiians and walk everywhere BAREFOOT.

So out I went, walking on the sharp and jagged reef coral in the turbulent whitewash to go fishing…

As the locals would say: Not too bright ya bradda???

Can you see where this is going?

While fishing in the waves, I did my best to stand my ground against the tide, planting both feet on footholds firmly in the reef… This way, I would keep a good fishing position no matter how many waves slammed against me…

Or so I thought.

And that’s when a giant wave came and pulverized my body, making me slide backwards across the reef. I immediately felt a little scrape on the bottom of my foot but didn’t think anything of it (ain’t no big ting ya).

But when I came back to shore and off of that jagged reef, I had a nice GASH in the sole of my left foot and it was bleeding pretty bad.

So, like any wannabe tough guy, I put some salt water on it, threw on a Band-Aid and just kept walking around in my slippas like everything was fine.

But it wasn’t fine, it REALLY HURT. For the rest of the trip, I was hobbling around everywhere… And soon, my OPPOSITE knee starting to feel very achy and sore…. My body was compensating for the injury, new pains were surfacing and the snow ball was getting bigger.

Why? Because I didn’t prioritize my health. I didn’t properly clean the wound, I didn’t wear padded shoes, and I didn’t give the wound time and room to heal.

The same goes for your health… You may have a little ache or pain somewhere… Or you may eat a sugary food everyday that you know you shouldn’t eat.

If you don’t take care of the ache or nix the junk food in your diet, a cascade of issues can result…

Arthritis, diabetes, plantar fasciitis, chronic anxiety…

Sometimes things happen in life… Wounds from the reef: Car accidents, losses, tragedies, injury, neck pain, back pain, foot pain, knee pain, wrist pain, shoulder pain.

Don’t hold it all in… Don’t repress the pain. Take care of it properly addressing the wound through an adjustment, or a scar tissue release session, or custom built orthotics, or neurofeedback.

The sooner you take care of the issue the better. And better yet, wear reef-walker shoes to prevent things like this from happening in the first place! Stay aligned and maintained. Eat health fats, vegetables and proteins.

Enjoy life, take action, prioritize your health and live aloha.

Mahalo and a hui hou (until we meet again),

Dr. Hudson

Neurofeedback is amazing technology that works by re-aligning brain waves while you are engaged in a movie or music.

Decades of research have shown that properly aligned brainwaves can positively affect the way the body functions.

Neurofeedback has 3 main goals:

1) Identify irregular brainwaves (Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Theta)

2) Re-establish neural connections to adjust brainwaves

3) Train the brain to maintain regular patterns permanently
