In case some of you aren't following the World Series - whether you're not a sports fan, a baseball fan, or maybe just living under a rock (JK) - the Dodgers are playing the Yankees! The last time these two historic teams clashed in the World Series was back in 1981, with the Dodgers coming from behind to clinch the series after dropping the first two games. It was an iconic showdown, one that brought L.A. a championship they'd been chasing for sixteen years.
This series reminded me of another unforgettable World Series moment in 1988 when I was just a kid. The Dodgers were up against the A's, and Kirk Gibson, barely able to walk, stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. My brothers and I were watching on that familiar blue carpet in our room, and when he hit the game-winning home run, we went wild-screaming and jumping like we'd won the Series ourselves. It was a night that left a memory we'll never forget.
Now, all these years later, I'm sitting at home in Florida, watching Game 1 with my own family. My wife made all the perfect game-day snacks, and we're gathered together, feeling the excitement and suspense. With two outs in the bottom of the 10th and the Dodgers losing 3-2, Freddie Freeman smashes a walk-off grand slam to win it,
Dodgers-6, Yankees-3. My kids and I go crazy, just like I did as a kid. We made a family memory that night, one I am certain will stick with my children as much as that night in 1988 has stuck with me.
Almost 40 years have flown by since that unforgettable moment, and here we are again, watching history unfold. Time moves quickly, and each day reminds us to make the most of every opportunity, honoring the health that God has graciously given us to be present in these moments. Health is a blessing-not only for us to enjoy life but to share it meaningfully with others. Let's stay active, make choices that are wise, and remember the gift of good health that enriches our lives and those we love.
Remember your health affects everything you do and everyone you know.
Here's to your health, your family, and many more unforgettable memories, on and off the field!
