Earlier this week, my family and I decided to play hooky from work and spend the day on small isle near Singer Island. A friend of ours graciously offered my family and I to use his boat, so we took him up on it.
It was great to get away during the week, having that time for some rest & reprieve. We caught fish, swam, paddle boarded, enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and just completely defragmented from all the stresses of life and busyness.
As the sun was setting, the day was almost a 'perfect 10' as we launched off from the island to head back home, until we tried to power up the boat and discovered...it wouldn't start.
We were told there were two batteries just in case one went dead, so we hit 'switch battery' thinking that would solve the problem, but once again...the boat would not start.
The current was moving at a decent rate and we saw ourselves slowly drifting into the boat channel where a miniature cruise liner was heading our way.
At this point, my wife is quickly losing the benefits of relaxing all day on the island and is not a happy camper.
One of her biggest fears is being helplessly stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean, especially facing danger with her family on board.
The older boys quickly started rowing back to the safety of the island while some of us were on our cell phones talking with Sea Tow, the AAA of stranded boats.
After about 15 minutes of all this, someone decides to try to start the engine again, and by some divine intervention, the boat powers up as if nothing ever happened.
When we got back to the docks where we met our friend, he told us that sometimes if the shifter is ever so slightly off-center, the boat won't start up.
In the same way, our bodies at times can function like the boat we were on.
A misaligned vertebrae, untreated scar tissue, or some slight imbalance can act like the shifter not being in the right position which can cause pain, tightness, or malfunction somewhere.
Keeping physically active, eating a healthy whole-food diet, getting adequate sleep, etc. are all beneficial habits in your quest for good health, but just like the shifter needing to go just in the right position, your body needs a chiropractic tune-up to stay aligned and balanced to keep you functioning at your best.
Patients that keep up with regular chiropractic treatments often function at a higher level compared to their peers, enjoy their physical activities with less injury and maintain a pain-free lifestyle.
Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Have a GREAT weekend!
